Amalfi Coast: Cetara, a beautiful villages in the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is famous for all over the world for its artistic beauty and for its sea, but also for its ancient culinary tradition that celebrates the fish in all its delicious variations.

Cetara is one of the most beautiful fishing villages of the Amalfi Coast. Built into the rock at the foot of Mount Falerio, its economy is based mainly on tourism and fisheries, in particular the slaughter of tuna, one of the most popular activities of the past and of the present. In Cetara the tasty fish dishes are a real feast for the taste and the eyes. The blue fish is cooked according to traditional recipes, one of the most famous is a particular condiment called “colatura di acciughe” ; this condiment that is obtained by soaking the anchovies for a long time in the containers until you have a sort of "garum", a sauce much loved by the Romans. It is served with spaghetti and is very delicious.

One of the most important events of the Amalfi Coast is "a tutto tonno" great gastronomic festival dedicated to the world of tuna. It takes place every year in late July and early August. "A tutto tonno" held in Cetara and is dedicated to the enhancement of tuna and bluefish; for this occasion the locals offer very typical dishes and products of local fishing cuisine, like anchovy or blue fin tuna in the Mediterranean; all the dishes are accompanied by a great white wines of Cilento. But tourists can taste another typical products: the limoncello, produced in all the Coast of Amalfi until Sorrento and the local extra virgin olive oil.

The Amalfi Coast and Cetara is considered by its visitors a little piece of Paradise for its wonderful views and fantastic tastes and flavours.
